Check the attachment as a separate mechanism

Weight Benches with Leg Attachments

A leg attachment adds a pivot, padded contact points and sometimes a separate weight-loading position to a bench. That makes fit and compatibility more important than the number of functions in the title. Use this guide when comparing a complete bench and attachment package or checking whether an accessory is supported by a bench you already own.

Check the documented movements

A padded leg unit may support leg extension, leg curl or only a particular configuration. The presence of rollers does not establish every exercise. Look for the manufacturer’s intended use and adjustment instructions, including which bench positions are supported with the attachment.

Fit depends on more than seat height

Compare the pivot location, seat position and adjustment of the padded rollers. The user must be able to take the position described for that equipment without an improvised support. If fit is unclear from the dimensions and instructions, resolve it before purchasing.

Identify the loading interface

For plate-loaded attachments, check the sleeve diameter, usable length and permitted load. Plates included with a different set may not fit. The attachment’s limit is separate from the bench’s main rating, and the bench rating does not establish the capacity of the moving arm.

Allow for travel and disassembly

A projecting attachment increases the space at the foot of the bench and needs room through its full movement. Check whether it can be removed for other exercises and where it can be stored without becoming a trip point. Compare package contents carefully: an attachment shown in a setup image is not necessarily supplied.
