Vacuum & Steam Cleaners

A vacuum cleaner collects debris; a steam cleaner works differently, and a liquid-capable machine needs its own approved setup. Start with the surfaces and messes in your home, then choose the format and tools. This range also contains replacement parts, which should be compared separately from complete appliances.

Match the machine to dry dust, spills or stuck-on dirt

For everyday crumbs and dust, look at pickup and head design. For liquids, choose a machine explicitly designed for the task and its required filter configuration. Steam is a separate treatment: suitability depends on the surface manufacturer’s instructions, especially for finishes and glued layers. A product described as a vacuum accessory is not a complete cleaning system.

Compare working reach rather than cable length alone

Your reach includes cable, hose and wand, but also where the body can stand. A canister at the bottom of stairs is only useful if the hose reaches comfortably. A handheld tool is convenient for upholstery edges but may hold less debris. Plan the sequence of rooms and the emptying point, so a larger tank does not become awkward to carry.

Look at what you will clean after the floor

Dust bins, filters, rollers and wet tanks all need attention. Find out which parts can be washed and how they must dry before reassembly. Avoid assuming that “washable filter” means the whole machine can be rinsed. For a quick cordless routine or a larger wet-and-dry task, use the specialised selections below to compare the relevant compromises.

Vacuum & Steam Cleaners — your questions

Should I buy a vacuum, steam cleaner or spot extractor?

Start with the mess. A dry vacuum collects loose dust and crumbs; a spot extractor washes and recovers liquid from suitable fabric; a steam cleaner applies heated vapour to surfaces approved for it. These functions may be combined in some machines, but a large attachment bundle alone does not provide all three.

Can I use a steam cleaner on every sealed floor?

No. Surface type, joints, coatings and the floor maker’s care instructions all matter. “Sealed” is not a universal permission to apply heat and moisture. Identify the exact floor range and the cleaner’s permitted settings first; if steam is unsuitable, choose the approved dry or damp-cleaning method.

What makes a cleaner easier to use on stairs?

Consider the weight you lift, where the main body can stand and whether the hose reaches the next steps comfortably. A handheld tool can help on treads and upholstery edges, while a canister may stay below. Include emptying and storage in the route so a large tank does not become an awkward carry.
