Greenhouse types differ in frame, covering, access and ventilation. A polycarbonate structure, tunnel and compact shelf cover can serve different spaces, but each needs a suitable site and the setup described by its manufacturer.
| Type | Questions to compare |
|---|---|
| Rigid-panel greenhouse | Foundation, frame assembly, doors and vent operation |
| Tunnel | Cover attachment, anchoring and usable headroom near the sides |
| Shelf cover | Shelf loads, access to plants and space for ventilation |
Plan the site before the size
Check sunlight, drainage, wind exposure and access for watering. Measure the area needed for doors and maintenance, not just the base footprint. Follow local requirements where applicable and the product's anchoring and weather limits.
Compare the growing space
Shelves and benches reduce floor area but can make small plants easier to organise. Check how tall plants will become and whether the cover or roof restricts them. Ventilation and temperature management need a plan appropriate to the plants and climate; a greenhouse is not automatically self-regulating. Look for replacement-cover or panel information and a manageable cleaning process. Choose the structure that fits the site and growing routine rather than assuming the largest enclosed volume will be the most useful.
