Separate mattress fit from storage access

For a fabric storage bed, first confirm the required mattress dimensions and support arrangement. Then compare the frame's full outside width, length and headboard height with the room. Upholstered rails and headboards can project beyond the mattress footprint.

Understand the lifting mechanism

A gas-lift bed needs the clearances and mattress range stated by its manufacturer. Check the direction and height of the opening movement and how the platform is operated. Do not assume the mechanism will be effortless with any mattress or that it may be used without one fitted.

Plan the storage compartment

Measure usable internal space and check which parts are supplied as the storage base. A pictured wooden floor or lined compartment may differ by model. Keep stored items within the permitted height and away from moving components.

Allow for assembly and care

Check carton sizes, assembly access and the support or anchoring instructions. Follow the upholstery care information rather than applying a cleaning method based only on the word fabric. Choose a frame whose closed and open layouts work with bedside furniture and the exit route; storage features do not guarantee better sleep.
