Wallpaper quantities depend on wall dimensions, roll coverage and pattern matching. Dividing total wall area by roll area can underestimate waste when a repeating pattern must align.
Measure the walls and rolls
Record wall height and width, including the areas affected by openings. Check roll width, length and pattern repeat, then follow the manufacturer's quantity method. Allow for trimming and matching as specified rather than using one universal waste percentage.
| Detail | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Surface | Suitable wall condition and preparation |
| Application | Paste, peel-and-stick or another documented method |
| Pattern | Repeat, matching arrangement and direction |
| Batch | Consistency requirements when ordering multiple rolls |
Test suitability before committing
Follow guidance for painted, textured or damp surfaces. A removable label does not guarantee mark-free removal from every finish. Use a sample or approved test method where available, particularly in a rented property. Check the finished appearance in the room's light and plan seams around corners and features. Order from a measured layout with compatible batches rather than assuming a roll's nominal area will cover every wall without adjustment.
