A rangehood must suit the cooking appliance, the available space and the ventilation arrangement. Width alone is not enough to establish fit or performance.
Prepare the installation details
Measure the proposed opening and record the cooktop type, width and location. Ask the installer to confirm the permitted mounting height and whether the system will duct outdoors or operate in a documented recirculating configuration. Do not assume every model supports both.
| Item | Information to compare |
|---|---|
| Body dimensions | Width, depth, height and any chimney or cabinet requirements |
| Ducting | Outlet size, route and the installer's assessment of the complete system |
| Filters | Type, cleaning process and replacement availability |
| Controls and lighting | Access when cooking and the specified light replacement method |
Keep outdoor and indoor applications separate
A standard indoor kitchen rangehood should not be assumed suitable for an outdoor barbecue area. Heat, grease, exposure and the cooking equipment can change the requirements. Confirm the exact application with the supplier and installer. Compare noise and airflow figures only when the conditions and units are clear; the installed duct route can affect the result. Include installation, duct components and ongoing filter care in the decision. A correctly specified system with a workable cleaning routine is more useful than choosing the largest advertised airflow number in isolation.
