An air fryer, benchtop oven and multi-cooker can overlap in some tasks, but their shapes and cooking methods suit different routines. List the meals you make most often before comparing programme names.
| Appliance | Questions to test against your meals |
|---|---|
| Air fryer | Does the basket or rack area hold the portions you want with the required spacing? |
| Benchtop oven | Will your trays fit, and are the shelf positions useful for baking or reheating? |
| Multi-cooker | Which functions are actually included, and what are the minimum and maximum fill limits? |
Compare the working footprint
Include a door opening, basket withdrawal or lid lifting in the measurement. Check ventilation requirements, the location of controls and whether you can remove hot containers without reaching beneath a cupboard. A compact closed appliance can need considerable space when operating.
Count the cleaning tasks
Identify which parts detach, whether seals or valves need attention and which items are dishwasher safe according to the manual. Accessories may expand the functions but also need somewhere to live. Do not choose from the longest list of presets alone. A preset does not prove that an appliance will handle a particular recipe, tray or portion size. Compare the actual modes and usable space with your routine, and use the manufacturer's cooking and safety instructions. Energy savings cannot be assumed from the appliance category without considering the task and operating time.
