Compare open and folded dimensions

A folding mattress needs a suitable sleeping surface when open and a practical storage place when folded. Record the full open width, length and thickness, then the folded width, depth and height. The number of folds does not establish the packed size.

Check the intended use

Read the maker's guidance for guest sleeping, floor use or camping. An indoor folding mattress is not automatically suitable for damp ground, a tent or outdoor exposure. A product advertised for adults should not be treated as an infant sleep surface.

Plan support and handling

Use the support surface specified for the mattress and consider the low height when assessing access for the intended guest. Keep a clear route to the room's exit. Compare the product's weight and handle arrangement with the way it will be carried and stored.

Read the care instructions

Check whether the cover is removable and washable and whether the foam or filling requires separate treatment. Follow guidance for drying and storage rather than packing the mattress away damp. Firmness and comfort are personal; a folding design does not guarantee spinal support, better sleep or suitability as exercise equipment.
